WHATSAPP MESSAGE DECRYPTED BY JOHN MCAFEE

Whatsapp made some advanced security and privacy changes to its application,According to their official website they announced that:

'' Privacy and security is in our DNA, which is why we have end-to-end encryption in the latest versions of our app. When end-to-end encrypted, your messages, photos, videos, voice messages, documents, and calls are secured from falling into the wrong hands''

But a Cyber security expert by the name of John McAfee together with  a team of four other hackers were able to decrypt and read a message using their own servers located in a remote section in the mountains of Colorado.



According to Cybersecurity Ventures ,McAfee  reported  the hack news them by phone, and later sent an email providing proof of the hack with details.

 Cybersecurity Ventures wrote '' The WhatsUp message was exchanged between two cooperating researchers located at the New York City headquarters office of LIFARS, a cyber intelligence and digital forensics firm with deep domain experience in the mobile security field. A tiny app written by McAfee’s team was downloaded onto two brand new Android phones which were used for the message exchange.
The message was written and exchanged yesterday at 2:45pm EST in New York, and roughly one minute later it was read by McAfee and his hacking team in Colorado.''

It only took 1 minute to read the message after it was sent,in the picture below is the message that seems to have been decrypted




WHOSE TO BLAME

Mcafee was quick to say that the main vulnerability has nothing to do with the whatsapp application but lies in the android operating system,who else to blame but Google. seems like Google needs to start another bug bounty program .

Mcafee and his team though only one hacker identity was revealed-Chris Roberts,who was founder of one World Labs.Inc claims to have discovered a serious design flaw within the Android operating system that allowed his team to access virtually everything happening within all Android devices.

When asked what motivated Mcafee to attempt this vulnerability test he said “I have been warning the world for years that we are teetering on the edge of an abyss, that our cyber security paradigms no longer function, and that chaos will descend if something is not done” said in his own words,guese the man knows a lot about security and he later added on to say. “The fundamental operating system (Android), used by 90% of the world, and that should be the first bulwark against malicious intrusion, is flawed. Should I not bring this to the world’s attention through a dramatic demonstration? Do I not owe it to the world?”

Mcafee did not disclose any information on what the flaw in the android operating system was and will only be able to disclose it to Google only

McAfee is even open to help Google and Whatsapp help fix these vulnerabilities at no cost at all,he also said “This in no way was done for financial gain. This was my obligation to my tribe” 

Does this mean that Whatsapp is not secure?

McAfee said that as of this morning his team is now capable of demonstrating the same capability with SnapChat communications.
